Conclusions

After another drop in both competitive and non-competitive grants in 2013, attracting funds seems to have reached a turning point. Advance data for 2014 shows that there was a 37% increase in competitive funding and a 10.50% increase in non-competitive funding compared with 2013.

Competitive grants, at 69.8% of the total, continue to be the primary source of funding, with non-competitive grants providing 30.2%. Catalonia was awarded 846 million euros through the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development (2007–2013), of which 341 million euros (about 40%) went to Catalan universities.
